We would like to introduce ourselves to you:
Rachel Toomim, A.P., has 39+ years’ experience in Complementary Medicine and a practice in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine since 1988. Because of her extensive experience in addictions and drug-court consulting, she was brought to Florida by the 12th Judicial Circuit Court to design and implement drug-court programs for both Sarasota and Manatee Counties. She served as an elected board member for the AOM Alliance, a 403 (C)4 non-profit organization, the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a 503 (C)6 professional organization, and as the Vice President and Training Chair for NADA, the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association. She continues to refine her understanding of the complementary aspects between modern medicine and acupuncture by studying with one of the world’s foremost acupuncture scholars, Tran Viet Dzung M.D. Additionally, she is a Practitioner of Classical Feng Shui, according to the ancient texts and is a student of Master Han and the Wu Ji Academy - one of the world’s premier teaching institutions for Classical Feng Shui, and the only non-Chinese institution formally recognized by the Chinese Institute of Classical Feng Shui, in Beijing.
Family Practice in Advanced Acupuncture: Ms. Toomim treats men, women and children for a wide variety of disorders. She has advanced training in the treatment of immune disorders, the treatment of cancer and other tumorous growths, women's and men's health issues (including fertility, menopause and andropause), cardiology, digestive disorders, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, nephrology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, pulmonology, rheumatology (arthritic problems) and other pain disorders; she is respected world-wide as an addictions and mental health clinician.
Michelle Christides, Director Research and Distance Ed. Curriculum, manages CEUProHealthcare, the Nursing section, and does the research and writing for all our courses, with the exception of the passages on Acupuncture in that section's courses. She is a former Adjunct Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Western Civilization and Jungian psychotherapist from Massachusetts. She began her research interests in the scientific advances in Healthcare as she completed her doctoral coursework at the University of California, Berkeley, where she was invited to attend a yearlong core seminar, "Psycho-Social Correlates of Medicine," in the experimental program funded by Johnson & Johnson "to humanize medical education." She taught cross-cultural communications at the Federal Government's employee training agency, the U.S.D.A. Graduate School, in Washington, D.C. She received her faculty certification in Distance Education Curriculum Design from USDA Grad School and her certificate in Web Development and Design.
After moving to Florida, she was certified by Shands Hospital, the University of Florida--Gainesville, in Arts-in-Healthcare. She is currently conducting cultural programs as clinical studies into their impact on the health of older adults, which she first learned about while on contract as a Senior Associate Writer with NIH. These studies were pioneered by Dr. Gene Cohen, Director of Center on Aging Health and Humanities, George Washington University Medical School. Prof. Christides presents an Open Studio for Art and Crafts to Parkinson's patients and teaches "Jung and Western Civilization" each winter at the Pierian Spring Academy, an intellectual community of retired professionals in Sarasota. She is a full-time artist in oils and invites you to see her paintings on her Open Studio web site.
